Sol Campbell - could train with Arsenal.

CAMPBELL COULD TRAIN AT ARSENAL

Former captain Sol Campbell could return to training with Arsenal following his departure from Notts County.

The 35-year-old defender is currently without a club after leaving the Magpies last month. He had signed a five-year deal at Meadow Lane but played in only one game for the Coca-Cola League Two club.

Campbell is still under contract with County and therefore could not formerly rejoin the Gunners, who he played for for five years before moving to Portsmouth in 2006.

But he has spoken to boss Arsene Wenger about the possibility of training with his old side.

"It will be great to train here and get fit," said the defender.

"I've spoken to Arsene, hopefully we can get everything right and speak to the right people and get a couple of the physios and fitness guys to help me and train.

"My overall fitness is okay. But something else might happen before then."

Under current rules, Campbell looks set to have to wait until January to join a new club because he has already played for two sides in 2009.

But he is confident there are ways around the restrictions, although he did not go into details.

"I just want to play football in the right way but everything has to be done in the proper way," he continued.

"There are ways of playing before January; I'm not going to elaborate, but there are ways. Not very soon, but there are ways.

"First of all, I've got to get out of the (County) contract, people have to sign papers. There are lots of things that have to be tied up but I think everyone understands why."

"What's the problem folks??

He has quit Notts, yeah in hindsight signing for them was a tad foolish - but hey, at least he got out and gave the club a chance to get someone in more commited, rather than sol eek out into retirement putting in poor displays because he is disinterested.

So he is without a club and without any proper training to prepare him for the chance of signing for a club in January.

He is only training - Arsene would not even think of signing him back for regular duty - unless a meteor struck london colney..and wiped out the defensive squad.

So give the fella a break - he just wants to be fit and have a chance of getting a good move in january.

ohno

"to be fair if we had a few players out i would much rather have Sol then Silvo big head

"double double double Sol Campbell has won the double" happy happy days "

"like Beckaham his experince would be good if he trains with the team for the younger players ...but he woulld never get into this arsenal team ....ur time is up Sol ...lets remember u they were u were ...cos certainly aint got what it takes to be in the team anymore ....."

pique

"Sol coming to Notts. County was a joke in it's self. I thought the papers had it wrong and it was Nottingham Forest he was coming to.

Makes you wonder just what all the talks were about to land him at county. Sven has set the sights but my betting is within 18 month's he to will be gone. Money is not everything and I hope Notts. do get on and promotion but small gates will not maintain the high profile needed.

Sorry old chap Sol. Bet you nvere play for England again as we heard the reason youwent because you want an England shirt for tha Word Cup mmmmmm. I wonder?"

"This guy is a complete joker, It really does my head in, First he wants to be an actor, Then he goes to Porthsmouth, Then leaves for little Notts County and leaves after 1 game, More like he just loved the media attention, And now he wants to return Arsenal to shoot a movie scene at the training ground for the only ever movies he will be in,,, Are the ones on youtube.

Im not an arsenal supporter but if they sign him up it will just be a waste of money, Signing a player with no respect or honour for contracts he has signed."

rogere

"Does this seem all to be benefitting Sol or am I missing something that actually helps Arsenal. This isn't a charity!!"

lineso

"Well he needs to do something. I thought he'd be back at Spurs by now seeing as he was out with with messers Defoe, Dawson & Huddlestone at the NBA last night!"

paul7000

"Heart and soul is Arsenal? He was good for us but I'm pretty sure he's mostly Tottenham ;)"

fingermau5

"yay, a centre-back pairing of sol and silvestre, together at last!"

ruffled

"former captain is a vast exaggeration."
